Data Sets

This page lists publically available LiDAR data sets. Contact information might also be provided for some non-public data sets.

Wombeyan Caves, NSW Australia

These data sets are publically available. Their size ranges up to 564 MB. Contact: Mike Lake.

  • Victorial Arch
  • Wollondilly Cave
  • Junction Cave
  • ML4 Quarry

Below is one of the smaller data sets for the Victoria Arch at Wombeyan Caves. The data was generated by the Zebedee survey done by Robert Zlot from CSIRO during the Sydney University Speleological Society (SUSS) trip in January 2014. For a trip report of this trip and further details see: suss.caves.org.au and under the “Members Area” click on “Bulls and Journals”. That will take you to Dropbox where you can download Bulletin Volume 53(1) Apr - Jun, 2014.

wcr03_victoria_arch_9pct.ply – This data set has been reduced to 9% of the original data. Data size: 93 MB.

wcr03_victoria_arch_traj2.ply – This is the trajectory of the Zebedee during the scan. Data size 3.6 MB.

The CSIRO_Wombeyan_Caves_Data.txt file contains information on the Zebedee files, including how to view them, and copyright and attribution information prepared by Robert Zlot.

Cliefden Caves, NSW Australia

These data sets are not publically available. Contact: Mike Lake.

  • Childrens Cave
  • Limestone Building
  • Main Cave
  • Stable Cave
  • Swansong Cave
  • Trapdoor Cave

This is a video made of the Zebedee dataset for Main Cave at Cliefden, hosted at the “Save Cliefden Caves” YouTube channel: Cliefden Caves 3D Fly-through.

The above cave at Cliefden Caves NSW was scanned in a total of 3.5 hours over two days in September 2014.

The video starts on the surface and moves towards some trees. You can clearly see the branches. It then drops below ground level so you can see the extent of the cave and then passes into the cave passage. Just as you enter the cave you can see the flat bedding on the roof, dipping to the North by about 30 degrees. In “Main Chamber” you can see a large stalagmite called “Lots Wife”. The fly-through then proceeds through “Main Chamber” and flys out of the cave and back into a part of the cave called “The Clown Room”. The flythough eventually ends showing how the cave fits under the hill.

This is a screen capture of what the point cloud data looks like for Cliefden Main Cave. You can see the trees on the surface. Cliefden Main Cave
